As expected, Eva Lys lost to Wimbledon winner Iga Swiatek at the Tennis Masters in Montreal and left in the third round.
In just 72 minutes, the Polish, which was placed in two position, defeated the last remaining German player in the tournament 6-2, 6-2. Lys only had a chance in the match for a break that was unused.
Lys immediately lost her first service against Swiatek, then stabilized something, but gave the first set in 40 minutes. In the second round she quickly fell 0: 4, after 1:14 hours Swiatek converted her first match ball. Lys was the last German in the tournament, which was her prelude to the hard court preparation for the US Open in New York (from August 24th).
Pegula surprisingly out
Jessica Pegula is surprisingly eliminated. The American, placed on number three, lost Anastasija Sevastova 6: 3, 4: 6, 1: 6. The Latvian is currently only number 386 in the world. Since the former German number one Angelique Kerber, which has now resigned, won in Indian Wells against Jelena Ostapenko last year, according to US media, nobody has beaten a player out of the top 10 with a lower ranking. Pegula is number four on the tennis world rankings.
