Painful but true: Eva Jinek (43) seems to have passed the peak of her career. TV expert Fons van Westerloo fears that the presenter will now end up in a vicious circle.
Eva Jinek was at the peak of her career when she cashed in on her enormous success at the end of 2019 with a contract with RTL 4. She has been on the road for over two years now, but she is more often on vacation than on television. As a result, the viewer has lost track of her a bit and people are now zapping en masse to Arjen Lubach’s late talk show.
Eva disappoints
The result of Arjen’s enormous success on NPO 1? Eva’s viewing figures drop even further. “Eva Jinek regularly has to do it with a modest number of viewers,” writes Fons van Westerloo, who has been director of both RTL and SBS, in his column in De Telegraaf.
Eva scores considerably fewer viewers than Arjen. “That doesn’t mean she makes a bad program, but that the viewers just find something else more attractive.”
Vicious circle
Fons knows all too well what falling viewing figures do to a TV presenter. “They start to doubt their own abilities or that of their editorial staff,” he explains.
It is very likely that Eva also experiences these feelings now that Arjen surpasses her. “That is the tragedy that program makers always have to deal with.”
sour school teacher
Private star Jan Uriot thinks Eva is a bit passé. “Eva has been getting a bit of a sour schoolteacher lately. It no longer puts things into perspective, as we know Eva. There must be more in it,” he says in his column Wat Vindt Jan.
Now that Renze Klamer has been brought in as the fourth (!) talk show host of RTL 4, Jan fears for Eva’s contract extension. “That is becoming an expensive lady for RTL, because she will work less and less of course.”
sick
By the way, except for the Monday broadcast, Eva has been absent all week on the late evening of RTL 4. According to the channel, she is struggling with a throat infection.
Her replacement Humberto Tan last Friday: “Eva is still sick. I still want to wish her well and I’ll just sit there while she’s sick, but Eva, we’re thinking of you.”
