Eva Jinek points out that Jack van Gelder has not been completely honest in the run-up to the revelations about misconduct at NOS Sport. “He said he knew nothing!”
It is curious: since three months ago the first stories came out about transgressive behavior at NOS Sport, former celebrity Jack van Gelder has said several times that he never knew anything about it. “Yes, I was shocked, because I never, ever noticed anything,” he said, for example at HLF8.
With Jack in the bath
That is a big lie, was already noticed a month ago by opinion maker Victor Vlam. He pointed out in his podcast that Jack, for example, publicly ridiculed his former colleague Daniëlle Oerlemans on the radio. “Jack van Gelder has butter on his head. It’s really absurd. He is part of the unpleasant working climate!”
Jack confessed on television on Thursday evening, with the hot breath of the Volkskrant on his neck, that he plays the leading role in two incidents that have been investigated by the newspaper. For example, he invited colleague Aïcha Marghadi to his bath and called a colleague ‘h**r’. The newspaper published all the details about this last night.

It now appears that Jack has been warned about at least one of the two incidents. After his statement: ‘if that h **r comes along, I’m not going’, an editor-in-chief asked Jack not to talk about colleagues like that.
The Volkskrant: “But at a next meeting, Van Gelder again talks about ‘that h**r’. The editor-in-chief warns him again, this time in a one-on-one conversation.”
When Jack then talks about ‘that k*t’ in an e-mail to several colleagues, the editor-in-chief immediately decides not to go to the European Football Championships in Poland and Ukraine. It later turns out that Jack does travel normally, but the woman he called ‘h**r’ and ‘k*t’ doesn’t.

Eva Jinek therefore believes that Jack has demonstrably lied in the past period. “Jack van Gelder has said that he knew nothing. He has said that several times, but we now know that at the time he was already held accountable for that behavior, that all those involved were spoken to and he denied, in the picture, that he knew nothing about it.
Table guest Angela de Jong responds to this Jinek: “And he says in one sentence that he could call a female colleague a h**r and in another sentence: ‘Yeah, but I didn’t think it was a weird atmosphere there at all.’ That was apparently quite normal.”
Eva points out that even she knew about the unsafe working atmosphere at NOS Sport. “I have always had excellent experiences at NOS News. I have always felt safe. But even then – I’ve been away for ten years now – I heard other stories about the sports floor. Substantially different stories. A really different culture.”
Joking Jack
Jack gets through too RTL Boulevard portrayed as a liar. Voice-over Jeroen Kijk in de Vegte in yesterday’s broadcast: “When NOS Sport comes out with the news in December to investigate the safe working atmosphere, Jack still says he knows nothing.”
Then the joking Jack is brought into the picture: “I never heard anything, saw anything, didn’t think, so yeah, I don’t know. I also don’t know where the line lies for transgressive behavior these days.”
TV connoisseur Rob Goossens thinks that Jack should watch his step. “I hope this is it for him, because then it can be smart that you take the flight forward, but if there is one more story now, then he has been cherry picking and this has been a very risky move.”
