In the eurozone, retail sales rose somewhat in July. Compared to the previous month, revenues increased by 0.3 percent, as the statistics office Eurostat announced on Monday in Luxembourg. Analysts had expected an average increase of 0.4 percent. In June, sales had fallen by 1.0 percent.

Compared to the same month last year, sales fell by 0.9 percent. A decline of 0.8 percent had been expected here. The development in the European Union (EU) was similar.

Sales in mail order and online retail increased particularly significantly in a month-on-month comparison. Overall, non-food (excluding fuel) sales fell slightly. The proceeds from food and beverages increased slightly. (dpa)
