Eurozone: Retail sales fall surprisingly sharp

Eurozone retail sales fell more than expected in March. In a monthly comparison, they fell by 1.2 percent, as the European statistical office Eurostat announced on Friday in Luxembourg. Economists had only expected a minus of 0.2 percent. However, the decline in February, at a revised 0.2 percent, was lower than the minus 0.8 percent initially determined.

Besonders sanken die Umsätze im März im Versand- und

internet trade. Sales of food and beverages also fell noticeably. On the other hand, they have increased for car fuels.

Im Jahresvergleich sanken die Umsätze im gesamten Einzelhandel im

March by 3.8 percent. A decline of 3.3 percent was expected here. (dpa)
