Eurovision Song Contest boy Joost Klein in danger? ‘Media can be fatal’

Opinions about Joost Klein as a new entry for the Eurovision Song Contest are strongly divided, but it cannot get much worse than the prevailing opinion about Mia & Dion. Or yes?

What a lot of shit Mia Nicolai and Dion Cooper got dumped on. The couple went to the Eurovision Song Contest on behalf of our country this year, but sang so out of tune that we might as well have sent someone in the crow suit from The Masked Singer. No one would have seen the difference. Either way: new rounds, new opportunities.

“Are you proud of it?”

Now the wise men of AvroTros have appointed a new entry: Joost Klein. Not many people know him, but he is quite successful in his genre. Some don’t like it, others love it. However, he is at a very high risk, because according to Mia, participating in the song festival could be fatal.

Mia points out the role of the media. “I have taken responsibility for everything that I could influence. I hope some people in the media do the same. Take a moment to look at yourself: is this really how you want to be? Are you proud that you have portrayed two young artists in such a way?”, she says Het Parool.

Fatal media

According to Mia, it is to be hoped that something like this does not happen to Joost Klein or to subsequent entries. “I hope that if something like this happens again in the future, people will first think of offering support, rather than degrading them even further. Realize: something like this can be really dangerous.”

Media itself can ultimately be fatal, according to Mia. “Luckily I am strong, but unfortunately this year I also experienced that a friend of mine chose not to continue living. So I know how it can also work in someone’s head. I hope people take that more into account.”
