ST. JOHN’S (dpa-AFX) – The European Union and Canada want to work more closely together on a number of issues in the future. Among other things, the exchange on artificial intelligence (AI), climate issues and the “Horizon Europe” research program is to be intensified, it was said at the end of a two-day summit with representatives from Canada and the European Commission in Newfoundland on Friday. Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, EU Commission President Ursula von der Leyen and Charles Michel, President of the European Council, also took part in the meeting.
Trudeau reiterated his country’s solidarity with Israel. His country’s final declaration with the EU said: “We stand firmly together in pushing for peace, stability and prosperity in the world, including Ukraine and the Middle East.” With regard to the conflict with Russia, there should be a tribunal to deal with war crimes, according to one demand./cfa/DP/jha
