Handball Bundesliga team TSV Hannover-Burgdorf celebrated a confident opening victory in the European League. The “Recken” won at HC Kriens-Luzern on Tuesday evening with 31:23 (13:13).

The game against the Swiss Cup winners began with a 15-minute delay because the floor in the hall had to be repaired. A long, exciting and close game then developed. After 15 minutes it was a draw (6:6), as Hannover needed some time to get to grips with the hosts’ offensive defense.

Renars Uscins finally gave the “Recken” a two-goal lead (10:8) with his first goal of the game in the 20th minute. However, this didn’t last long in the following minutes due to imprecise use of chances and the score was 13:13 it into the cabins.

Hannover needs a run-through

However, coach Christian Prokop gave his team the right words to say. Lucerne’s Andy Schmid, who scored seven goals in the first half, only managed one more in the second 30 minutes. Defensively, Lower Saxony was stable, also thanks to the saves from Simon Gade, who had a very good evening. It was only after around nine minutes that the Swiss scored their first goal in the second half.

In the middle of the second half, the “Recken” pulled away. Justus Fischer scored in the 20th minute to make it 25:19, his fifth goal at this point in his fifth attempt. With two goals in the last four minutes to make it 29:23, Marius Steinhauser removed all doubts about success. The best throwers in Lower Saxony were those two – Fischer and Steinhauser – with six goals each.
