Foxes in front at half time

In the almost sold-out Max-Schmeling-Halle, the Füchse Berlin got off to a better start in the game after a short testing phase. Goalkeeper Victor Kireev started the game with a saved seven-meter throw and subsequently paved the way for his team to take an early lead with further saves. After just under nine minutes, the Berliners were already four points ahead. Coach Jaron Siewert could be happy with his first few minutes teams in the new one European League-Season.

After the first time out of the French Coaches Érick Mathé, however, the hosts lost the thread a bit. The offensive around Füchse backcourt player Mathias Gidsel missed a few throws in a row, so that Chambery came within one point of the Berliners again. In particular, the Spanish backcourt player Iosu Goni showed a good performance in this phase, prompting Siewert to take a time out in order to make improvements. The 29-year-old’s speech had an effect: the Füchse increased their lead again by halftime and went into halftime with a score of 13:10.

Busy second round

After the break the game noticeably slowed down. Both teams lacked momentum. The Berlin spectators were therefore not treated to an offensive spectacle. The Foxes still managed to maintain their lead. This was mainly due to the continued strong goalkeeper Kireev, who made remarkable saves time after time.

Overall, the Füchse showed a more mature performance, so that the Berliners deservedly prevailed against the French with 24:22 without any major hardship.
