Even without Boll in the final
The German Table Tennis Association is in the final of the European Games with both teams. After the women’s 3-0 win against Portugal in the morning, the men followed suit on Friday evening, also against the Iberians. At 3:1 after sets, national coach Jörg Roßkopf did without superstar Timo Boll, as in the first tournament game against Belgium in the quarterfinals (3:0).
The 42-year-old record European champion had warmed up a few hours before the semifinals, but was only a substitute. Due to an injury to his left shoulder, the former number one in the world was last in a competitive game at the end of February.
In the final on Saturday, the German men’s team meets Sweden. Before that, the women will play against Romania for the title with mixed European champion Nina Mittelham.

Sport shooter Christian Reitz won the silver medal. In the final with the rapid-fire pistol, the 29-year-old narrowly lost 28:30 to world number one Clement Bessaguet from France, while Florian Peter finished fourth. For Reitz, Olympic champion in Rio 2016, it was the second medal in his special discipline after winning the first European Games in 2015 in Baku. He also won bronze in the mixed air pistol competition in Minsk in 2019 and gold in the air pistol team competition in Wroclaw.
