Javelin thrower Julian Weber is particularly driving the medals of German athletes at the European Athletics Championships in Munich.
“The team and the previous performances push you extremely,” said the 27-year-old from Mainz. The preliminaries are on Friday and the finals on Sunday. Andreas Hofmann and defending champion Thomas Röhler will also be at the start.
After fourth place at the Olympics last year and at the World Championships a few weeks ago, Weber is hoping for a medal. Weber followed the victories of Gina Lückenkemper over 100 meters and Niklas Kaul in the decathlon on Tuesday in the Olympic Stadium. “It was goosebumps, it was so much fun,” said the Mainzer. “I’m super motivated and I’m really looking forward to the competition.”
Fourth in the World Cup, Weber is Germany’s greatest hope for a medal in the javelin throw. Röhler is far from his old form after injury problems. Former world champion Johannes Vetter had to cancel his start due to injury.
