European first in Spanish parliament: definitive green light for menstrual leave | Abroad

The measure is part of a much broader text that, in particular, strengthens access to abortion in public hospitals. The law was passed with 185 votes in favour, 154 against and 3 abstentions.
The law does not determine how long the menstrual leave may last. A doctor has to decide on that.

The UGT trade union, one of the largest in Spain, previously criticized the measure. The union is concerned that companies will now be less inclined to hire women in order to avoid absences.
