In principle, a booster should follow a vaccination after six months, the European Commission previously proposed. In addition, the EU Member States will be given a three-month grace period to be able to give everyone a booster shot. The new rules for the digital corona certificate (dcc) will also not take effect on January 10, as was originally intended, but on February 1. Countries that started late, such as the Netherlands, have more time for the booster campaign.
Now that the arrival of the omicron variant has increased concerns about the resurgent epidemic, several EU countries have tightened their travel rules. The Netherlands hopes that they will dare to celebrate again when travelers will soon have to get a boost to keep their corona certificate.
