European Championships: That was day 2 in Munich

As of: 08/12/2022 9:47 p.m

Germany’s track women cycled away from everyone. Triathlete Laura Lindemann kept her word. And then there was Kim Lea Müller, who could hardly believe it with her BMX medal.

Track bike – gold in a double pack

First gold and then again – it was a day at the European Championships in Munich that Germany’s women’s track cyclists will not soon forget. In the foursome, Lisa Brennauer, Franziska Brauße, Mieke Kröger and Lisa Klein were behind Italy for a while, but they still won the European Championship title.

Later, the team sprinters Emma Hinze, Pauline Sophie Grabosch and Lea Sophie Friedrich were too fast for the competition, here the result was even clearer.

Triathlon – Lindemann’s special moment

In the last few meters, Laura Lindemann looked around again. Before her, only Non Stanford had finished the women’s triathlon at the European Championships. So Lindemann turned his head once, twice, three times. Carefully, almost hesitantly, she was still walking after all. At that moment, she may have felt the breath of pursuer Emma Lombardi, but Lindemann picked up the pace again.

The women’s triathlon as part of the European Championships started at high temperatures – here is the complete broadcast.

Then she raised her arms, a grin on her face – silver at the European Championships, that’s roughly how Lindemann had imagined it. Lindemann recently said that no medal is not an option. She kept her word.

BMX – Müller surprises them all

In the end, Kim Lea Müller surprised everyone, including herself. When she was standing in front of an ARD microphone at the moment of the greatest success of her career, Müller said: “I haven’t really realized it yet. I didn’t believe in it either.” Silver at the European Championships in BMX Freestyle, you wouldn’t have thought it possible for Müller.

More like Lara Lessmann, but she was fourth. Or Olympic champion Charlotte Worthington, but she was last. It was then Müller who provided the beautiful stories that day. She told me about her lucky charm, a chain with a sun, and then she said: “Munich is my favorite place from today.”

Rowing – only Dräger and Föster convince

Of course, it was a day with a lot of rowing. But it wasn’t a day that Germany’s rowing elite will fondly remember. At least Marie-Louise Dräger, 41, and 20-year-old Alexandra Föster were convincing.

Dräger rowed his way to second place in the repechage of the lightweight singles, the reward: the final on Sunday (08/14/2022). And Föster won the repechage in one, she can compete in the semifinals on Saturday.

Sport climbing – four Germans in the semifinals

For the sport climbers, on the other hand, it was a successful day. Yannick Flohé and Alexander Megos convinced in the lead qualification for the men, they can compete again in the semi-finals. Hannah Meul and Alma Bestvater are also in the semi-finals, but in women’s bouldering.
