European Championships! Martti Puumalainen made history

Puumalainen secured a medal at the European Judo Championships.

Martti Puumalainen has secured a medal at the European Judo Championships in France.

The Finnish judoka of the heavy division beat the Dutchman in the semifinals of the Games Jelle Snippen. Thus, he will surely grab at least silver from the tournament.

Puumalainen, 26, will face a Georgian in the final Guram Tushishvilin28.

Tushishvili is judo world champion from 2018, European champion from 2019 and Olympic silver medalist from 2020.

The final will be held on Sunday evening at around 19:00.

Finland has not won an EC medal in judo for as many as 30 years. Jorma Korhonen brought the previous one in 1993. He took silver that time.

On the way to the final, Puumalainen has knocked down the Serbian by Igor VrancarinRussian Valery Endoviskin and now Snippen.
