European Championships in Munich: another mistake in awarding prizes

Javelin thrower Jakub Vadlejch marched to the winner’s place, although he took silver in Munich.

There was an embarrassing mishap in the men’s javelin award ceremony late on Sunday evening.

The Czech Republic won silver Jakub Vadlejch accidentally got on top of the podium. Vadlejch managed to get the silver medal and a bouquet of flowers before the organizers noticed the mistake.

The person in charge of the ceremony walked up to the Czech thrower and kindly asked him to move to the side of the silver medalist’s podium.

During the prize distribution, the athletes walk up to the podium one at a time. When Vadlejch stepped on stage, Suomen Lassi Etelätalo the bronze medalist was already there, but the highest ball was empty.

There is no big difference in the height of the podiums, so the Czech hardly noticed that he was in the winner’s seat.

Many in the audience and on stage laughed at the situation. The distribution of prizes continued in a good way.

Gold was hung in Germany Julian Weber to the neck. Weber, who threw the first medal of his career in front of his home crowd, threw 87.66 meters in the final.

Etelätalo took bronze with its own record result of 86.44. He watched the podium episode from the sidelines.

The prize distribution of the European Championships in Munich has also been mixed up before. Thursday, when Wilma Murto got a gold medal around his neck, the organizers played a special version of the Maamme song.

For example, after the rally games, the Estonian national anthem has been played many times by mistake. By the way, it resembles the Finnish national anthem, but at the end of the stanza, the repetition “Ei laaksoa ei kukkulaaa…” is missing.

At Murro’s award ceremony, no repetition was heard at all, but the song jumped directly to the second stanza of the Maamme song.

The European Championships ended on Sunday. Finland won four medals in Munich.
