The German beach volleyball players made a successful start to the European Championship. Both Svenja Müller/Cinja Tillmann and Chantal Laboureur/Sarah Schulz each celebrated an opening success in front of the atmospheric ambience on Munich’s Königsplatz.
Müller and Tillmann won the opening match of the European Championship. The World Championship third from Hamburg defeated the French Clemence Vieira and Aline Chamereau in straight sets.
On the Königsplatz in Munich, which was packed with 5,000 spectators, the third place in the World Cup held their competitors in check at 21:14 and 21:15. The first set was over after 17 minutes and the second after 18 minutes.
At the World Cup, the duo of 21-year-old Müller and 31-year-old Tillmann, formed in 2021, surprisingly won bronze, but also benefited from an injury to the opponents from Switzerland in the match for third place. After the World Cup, Müller/Tillmann tested positive for Corona, which affected their preparation. Tillmann won silver at the European Championships two years ago with her partner at the time, Kim Behrens.
Laboureur/Schulze without losing a set against the Klinger sisters
In the evening, the German champions Chantal Laboreur (Friedrichshafen) and Sarah Schulz (Mainz) also defeated the sisters Dorina and Ronja Klinger from Austria in straight sets. At 21:10 and 21:13 they made short work of “The Klingers”, as the two siblings call themselves.
