Defending champion Arthur Abele has been disqualified in his last competition after a false start at the beginning of the second day. However, there is a protest against it.
Arthur Abele’s career will almost certainly end in a little drama: The defending champion was disqualified because of a false start. Beforehand, the man from Ulm had announced that he would contest his last decathlon in Munich. Ehammer, who was in the lead, had already made a false start and was cautioned.
However, the German Athletics Association said it would protest the decision.
Niklas Kaul, on the other hand, continues to go after gold. At the beginning of the second day of the competition, the former world champion from Mainz put in a decent performance over the 110 m hurdles with 14.45 seconds. After six disciplines, the 24-year-old is initially in fourth place with 5101 points.
Ehammer in the lead
Simon Ehammer (5668) is still in the lead, but Kaul has a much better second day than the competition. Kai Kazmirek is sixth (5076).
Tim Nowak had to end the competition due to circulatory problems. World record holder and world champion Kevin Mayer had to give up after the 100 m due to injury. Only the Frenchman was ahead of Kaul in the entry list, who finished sixth at the World Championships in Eugene three weeks ago with 8434 points.
