On the 6th and last day of the European Track Cycling Championships, the three German athletes entered the two finals in the keirin. All three remained undefeated.
Lea Sophie Friedrich, who started third out of six, showed a top performance. As soon as the “platoon leader” was gone and four laps were still to be completed, the world champion passed two competitors and didn’t let anything burn. The girl from Mecklenburg also won the lead. The three-time European champion Emma Hinze canceled participation in the Keirin at short notice because she was too exhausted from the previous races.
Also Dörnbach and Jurczyk in the final
Despite a difficult starting position, only in fifth place, Maximilian Dörnbach won his semi-final. As soon as the post was allowed to go off, the EM third went to the front in the time trial. The Frenchman Melvin Landerneau was able to overtake him briefly, but the Thuringian countered.
Marc Jurczyk, who was drawn in first place, did the same. The Chemnitz player was only briefly impressed and won the second semi-final. The final races start at 5:35 p.m. (women) and at 5:53 p.m. (men).
Keirin is also known as a combat sprint because several athletes compete directly against each other on the track. Before that, a pacemaker on a motorbike or electric bike sets the pace before pulling out halfway through the race after the 4th lap, leaving the oval to the athletes.
