Israel’s footballers got back into the European Championship qualification and lost against Kosovo. There were whistles during the anthem.
The Israeli national soccer team returned to qualifying for the European Championship with a defeat. In the first international match after the Hamas terrorist attacks on October 7th, coach Alon Hazan’s team lost 0-1 (0-1) against Kosovo. The decisive goal was scored by former Bremen player Milot Rashica in the 41st minute in adverse pitch conditions. Bayern’s reserve goalkeeper Daniel Peretz also sat on the bench for the Israeli team. When the anthems of both countries were played shortly before the game, there were loud whistles and boos from the Israeli team.
As a result of the defeat, Israel remains in third place in Group I, four points behind their upcoming opponents Switzerland. Israel’s national team’s games could not take place in October because of the Gaza war. On Wednesday the selection will face Switzerland as part of the European Championship qualification, on Saturday they will face Romania and three days later against Andorra. Two games were originally planned.
