European Championship over: defending champion Orange stumbles over France in extension

Partly due to the fantastic goalkeeping of Daphne van Domselaar and a lot of luck, the Orange forced an extension against France tonight. It went completely wrong after 102 minutes after a used penalty by Ève Périsset. That was the only goal of the game: 1-0.

It had never been a moment for the Netherlands. Almost the entire game, the Orange Lionesses were defending against France. Dominique Janssen almost helped the opponent into the saddle by hitting the ball wrong. As is often the case tonight, Van Domselaar was sharp and was able to tap away the bet.

The luck of the Netherlands was not over yet, because a hard bet from Delphine Cascarino from the second line ended up on the post. Before that, Sandie Toletti had already missed a big opportunity. Stefanie van der Gragt (Heerhugowaard) was an obstacle before the break by removing a bet from the line.

At the end

In the second half, France continued to attack and the Netherlands did not have any significant opportunities. Van Domselaar helped the Lionesses to their feet. In the 86th minute the damage seemed to be over, but Cascarino’s header went wide from close range. In stoppage time, Wendie Renard headed hard from a corner. Van Domselaar was able to turn the ball.

The goalkeeper had to bow after 102 minutes after a penalty from Périsset. He was allowed to build from the penalty spot due to a foul by Janssen. The Netherlands tried to turn the tide, but that goal was enough for a semi-final place for France.
