European Championship in England | The Netherlands and Sweden advance to the quarterfinals of the European Championship

Defending champions Netherlands and Sweden are in the quarter-finals of the European Women’s Football Championship in England.

On the last day of the preliminary round, Sweden beat Portugal 5-0 (3-0) in Leigh and are leaders in Group C. The Dutch women defeated Switzerland 4-1 (0-0) in Sheffield – they’re getting it now EM co-favorite France to do.

Filippa Angeldal (21st and 45th minutes), Kosovare Asllani with a hand penalty (53rd) and Stina Blackstenius (90+1) scored for Sweden, who won the title in 1984. There was also an own goal by Carole Costa (45 + 7). The team now meets Italy, Belgium or Iceland.

The Swiss team fell 1-0 down (49′) after Ana-Maria Crnogorcevic’s header own goal. Eintracht Frankfurt’s Geraldine Reuteler equalized four minutes later. Romee Leuchter (84th and 90th + 5th) and Victoria Pelova (89th) followed up in a strong final sprint by the Oranje team.
