The provisional program includes Emmen, Hoogeveen, Coevorden, Meppel and Assen as starting places. The finish location for the road races is the well-known VAM mountain, on which several cycling races have been held in recent years.
“Now that the start and finish municipalities are known, we can start organizing the cycling party,” says sports commissioner Henk Brink of the province of Drenthe. “Hopefully the residents of Drenthe will also make it a beautiful folk festival.”
The European cycling federation UEC is also looking forward to the event in Drenthe, says chairman Enrico Della Casa. “The idea of multiple start and finish municipalities really appeals to us. It is clear that the entire province of Drenthe is involved in this event. We are happy with that.”
In January, delegates from the UEC will come to Drenthe to inspect the routes. The exact routes will be officially announced at a later date.
The European Championships are next year from 19 to 24 September.
