European Champion Böhm misses World Cup medal

European Champion Alina Böhm (Heubach) missed a medal at the Judo World Championships in Doha. The 24-year-old judoka lost in the category up to 78 kg in the consolation round to Tokyo Olympic champion Shori Hamada from Japan and thus did not make it into the duel for bronze. Böhm had previously lost to Guusje Steenhuis from the Netherlands in the quarter-finals after two wins.

Böhm’s compatriot Anna Monta Olek (Hanover) failed in the third round in the same class at the hands of the Chinese Ma Zhenzhao, who had won silver at the World Championships in Tashkent last year. In the men’s category, George Udsilauri (Erbach) lost in the first round to Belgian Toma Nikiforov in the 100 kg class.

The selection of the German Judo Federation (DJB) is still with a World Cup medal. On Thursday, Giovanna Scoccimarro (Vorsfelde) had to admit defeat in the class up to 70 kg to the Japanese Saki Niizoe in the final and thus won silver.
