The German runners were not able to intervene in the fight for the medals in the EM decision over 5000 m.
While the Norwegian world champion Jakob Ingebrigtsen successfully defended his title in Munich’s Olympic Stadium in 13:21.13 minutes, Sam Parsons ran as the best German starter in a good sixth place in 13:30.38 minutes.
“What an experience to run here in Munich, it was really awesome,” said Parsons on “ARD” about the impressive backdrop in front of 40,000 spectators. The second German starter Davor Aaron Bienenfeld took 20th place in 13:45.63 minutes.
Mohamed Mohumed, who had suffered a slump in the 1500m heat the day before and was eliminated, did not start due to health problems. A subsequent nomination was no longer possible due to the cancellation at short notice.
Richard Ringer, who surprisingly won the marathon in Munich, won the last German EM medal over 5000 m in Amsterdam in 2016 with bronze.
