HV Volendam failed to progress in the European Cup. The handball players surprisingly defeated Wacker Thun in Switzerland (25-23). That was not enough after last week’s loss: 31-27.

Just like in the meeting last week in Volendam, the game waved up and down in the initial phase. The Swiss made a four point gap at 6-5 to 14-10. The Volendam handball players were able to put up a good fight against the professional team. That eventually led to a halftime score of 15-12.

The margin of four hits was picked up again in the second half by Wacker Thun (17-13). After this, Volendam fought back to 17-17 and keep changing it until 23-23. In the final phase it became 25-23 for the team of Geert Hinskens. As a result, the second round turned out to be the end station of HV Volendam.

Volendam will play in the BENE-League next week against the Belgian HC Visé BM.
