1. FC Union Berlin will have to do without their own fans in the stadium for their last and possibly decisive away game in the Europa League preliminary round.
As punishment for the misconduct of parts of its entourage at the game in Malmo, the club will not be able to sell tickets for the match at Royale Union Saint-Gilloise (Belgium) on November 3, UEFA said. In addition, Union must pay a total fine of 40,000 euros and contact Malmö FF within 30 days to settle the damage to seats caused by the supporters. Union accept UEFA’s decision.
In Malmö on October 6, fireworks were fired from the Union fan block onto the stands and a very loud firecracker was ignited. The game was about to be canceled. The Swedish club have to pay €74,750 for various misconduct related to the game. The Irons had already had to pay a fine of 40,500 euros this season for igniting pyrotechnics after the game in Braga.
Union are six points behind Braga (7) and Saint-Gilloise (10) in Group D with two games to play but still play both sides. The two best-placed teams advance to the next round. The third slips into the knockout stages of the Conference League.
