Europa League draw: Bayer Leverkusen & SC Freiburg with feasible groups

LASK meets Liverpool

The group stage of the Europa League was drawn at the Grimaldi Forum in Monaco on Friday afternoon. The two German participants, Bayer 04 Leverkusen and SC Freiburg, have managed to do well.

In Group H, the “Werkself” meets Qarabağ FK from Azerbaijan, Molde FK from Norway and BK Häcken from Sweden. The Breisgauer have to prevail in Group A against Conference League winners West Ham United from England, Olympiacos Piraeus from Greece and Europa League newcomers FK TSC Backa Topola from Serbia. From an Austrian point of view, LASK has to deal with top favorite FC Liverpool in Group E.

The Europa League group stage matches will be played on September 21st, October 5th and 26th, November 9th and 30th and December 14th. The group winners are sure to reach the round of 16, while those second will have to play third-placed teams in the Champions League group stage in a play-off. The third of the Europa League main round remain in the European Cup, they play in the Conference League against the group runners-up for a place in the round of 16. The Europa League final in Dublin, Ireland is scheduled for May 22, 2024.
