While Leverkusen had already qualified for the round of 16 in the Europa League as group winners, SC Freiburg had to go through the playoffs as second in the group and prevailed against RC Lens (0:0/3:2 nV).
There are two pots in the draw. One contains the tickets for the group winners, the other contains the tickets for the playoff winners. The group winners have home advantage in the second leg. Teams from a national association may not be drawn against each other.

The round of 16 first legs will kick off on March 7th, 2024, the second legs on March 14th. The quarterfinals are scheduled for April 11th and 18th, the semifinals for May 2nd and 9th. The final will take place on May 22nd in Dublin.
Frankfurt makes a mistake against Saint-Gilloise
It’s similar in the Europa Conference League. There, too, the group winners meet the playoff winners in the round of 16. However, Eintracht Frankfurt will only watch. The Hessians lost their playoff second leg against Union Saint-Gilloise from Belgium 1:2 (first leg 2:2) and were therefore eliminated.
In the Conference League, too, the group winners have home advantage in the second leg and teams from a national association are not allowed to be drawn against each other.
