The basketball players of FC Bayern Munich suffered a painful defeat in the EuroLeague. Coach Pablo Laso’s team clearly lost 86:109 at Anadolu Efes Istanbul.
Actually, everything started off quite well for the FC Bayern Munich basketball player and her coach Pablo Laso. But from the second section onwards, the guests completely lost the thread and allowed themselves to be shown off twice by the Turkish representative. In the end there was a clear 86:109 defeat, which meant that the chances of taking part in the play-offs dwindled.
Lead after the first quarter
The Munich team started the game well and gained a lead of nine points in the first quarter. But the Turks hit back and even equalized at one point. Nevertheless, Pablo Laso’s team went into the second period with a narrow lead (28:26). But in this one the guests made too many mistakes and carelessly missed too many throws. The Istanbul team was able to turn the game in their favor – much to the annoyance of Bayern coach Laso. We went into the break with a 49:53 deficit.
World champion fruit: “Were not ready”
But the Munich team didn’t come out of it well and were off their game at times. The FCB basketball players allowed 35 points and only scored 16 points in this quarter. The result: a deficit of more than twenty points before the last quarter. And this one didn’t get much better either. The question of who would win had long since been resolved; for Laso’s team it was just a matter of limiting the damage. And that didn’t really work either. In the end, Serge Ibaka and his teammates had to admit defeat with over twenty points. The summer newcomer was the guests’ best scorer with 23 points. World champion Andreas Obst admitted bluntly afterwards that his team had been “brought back down to earth with the facts of the EuroLeague”. “We weren’t really ready to play against Efes today.”
Play-offs are still mathematically possible
There are still six games left in the main round, at least tenth place in the table has to be achieved, otherwise the European Cup season is over. Despite the attrition, everything is still mathematically possible for Bayern. The twelfth-placed team in the EuroLeague, which missed its tenth win in a row across all competitions, will play at home on Friday next week (March 15th/8:30 p.m.) against the Lithuanians from Zalgiris Kaunas with former Bayern coach Andrea Trinchieri.
