The ratiopharm Ulm basketball team has qualified for the quarter-finals of the Eurocup.
The team of head coach Anton Gavel prevailed at home with 92:83 (42:53) against the Montenegrin club Buducnost Podgorica, with a 17:0 run in the third quarter the basketball Bundesliga team turned the game in the European Cup.
Until the middle of the first quarter, Ulm was at eye level, but then conceded a 2:17 run and were 16:30 behind after the first round. Until then, the hosts had not found their rhythm from afar and lost the ball too often. Although the Swabians did better offensively in the second half, they were still two digits behind at the break.
After the break, Ulm picked up the pace, gained momentum and, thanks to a 17-0 run, took a 66-59 lead. They didn’t allow any points for seven minutes. In the final section, Brandon Paul (18 points) took over and scored ten points in a row from Ulm. The hosts also defended strongly and didn’t let Podgorica get close.
In the quarter-finals, Ulm will meet Türk Telekom Ankara (Turkey) or Germani Brescia (Italy). In a duel with Ankara, the Swabians would have to play away, against Brescia they would have home rights.
