LOOK. The Ukrainians have received weapons from about forty countries. An overview
With the fund of originally 5.7 billion euros, the so-called European peace facility, the EU should actually be able to do it for seven years (until 2027). But since the Russian invasion of Ukraine, 3.6 billion has already been used to send weapons to that country. An end to the war is not in sight and Ukraine will need much more, it is widely heard, while the EU also wants to help other countries, for example in the fight against jihadists. The EU countries contributed 2 billion at the end of last year, but that will probably immediately be spent on the purchase of ammunition that Ukraine is desperate for.
The EU foreign service thinks the time is right for an extra effort, says a senior EU diplomat. Borrell said earlier that EU leaders, who have convened another summit in two weeks, should consider it.
