Etro appoints Marco De Vincenzo as creative director

Etro has appointed Marco De Vincenzo as its new creative director. He will take over as creative lead for women’s, men’s and homeware collections effective June 1, the Italian fashion house announced on Wednesday. The designer’s first collection for the SS23 season will be presented in September during Milan Fashion Week.

Marco De Vincenzo previously ran his own womenswear label, which he founded in 2009. With the label of the same name, he won the young talent award “Who is on Next?”. It has not been announced how the brand will continue and whether the founder will continue to design for it. Before founding his own label, De Vincenzo began a long-term collaboration with Fendi in 2000, after graduating from the European Institute of Design in Rome. At the Italian fashion house, which belongs to the luxury goods group LVMH, he works on accessory lines, currently as Leather Goods Head Designer.

The new course from Etro

“As part of the brand’s new course, we are excited to welcome the arrival of Marco De Vincenzo,” said Etro Managing Director Fabrizio Cardinali. “We are sure that Marco, with his flair for colours, prints and fabrics, will be able to best translate Etro’s exceptional heritage into new interpretations for the brand’s different collections and also to give new impetus to the world of accessories.”

Cardinali only joined Etro in September from Dolce & Gabbana after private equity firm L Catterton acquired Etro last year. The LVMH-backed company, which includes brands such as Birkenstock, Ganni and Pepe Jeans, is driving a restructuring and global expansion.

Two more executives were appointed after Cardinali in early March. Iacopo Martini assumed the role of Chief Financial Officer and Alberto Candelero that of Chief Commercial & Sustainability Officer. Candelero also came from Dolce & Gabbana and Martini from cosmetics supplier Kiko Milano.

Etro was founded by Gerolamo Etro in 1968 and was appointed chairman after the takeover. The founding family holds a minority stake in the company. Veronica, Kean and Jacopo Etro will continue to be involved in developing the brand strategy in collaboration with L Catterton, sources in Milan say.
