ETERNA celebrates 37 millionth shirt from its own factory

Shirt production in Bánovce in Slovakia reaches a record level

Passau, February 2022. Craftsmanship, the know-how of almost 160 years and a lot of passion are in every single shirt from ETERNA. And especially in this one: the 37 millionth shirt has just been manufactured in ETERNA’s own factory in Bánovce in Slovakia.

A sand-colored shirt with a printed collar patch is the record – one of many different shirts that are produced in Bánovce. ETERNA has been employing around 500 people there since October 1997. The capacity is designed for around 5000 shirts per day. The rest of the production is spread over other production sites at various locations in Europe and Asia.

Sustainable thanks to short transport routes

The ETERNA headquarters in Passau, Lower Bavaria, and the plant in Bánovce, Slovakia, are only around 500 kilometers apart. This means short and sustainable transport routes: a truck drives the route every day and either brings the daily production of 5000 shirts from Bánovce to the warehouse in Passau or from there fabrics, accessories and packaging material to Slovakia. “Manufacturing in Europe keeps CO2 emissions low during transport and offers the greatest possible flexibility through time savings,” explains Ralf Polito, Chief Operating Officer (COO) of ETERNA.

Top marks in certification

Of course, the production in Bánovce meets the highest standards. In the most recent audits for STeP certification by OEKO-TEX®, the plant achieved the highest level in all six categories, from environmental management to occupational safety and social responsibility. According to OEKO-TEX®, the measures taken in Bánovce for employees and environmental protection are considered “exemplary implementation in the sense of best practice examples”.
