The Association of Insurers believes in an initial estimate that private individuals suffered at least 8 million euros in damage from fireworks during New Year’s Eve.
That is less than last year, when an initial estimate was at least 10 million euros. Ultimately, the total insured damage amounted to 15.5 million euros at the turn of the year.
The industry bases its estimate on the claims that insurers received on New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day. This concerns, for example, damage to houses, scooters or cars due to fireworks or fire as a result of fireworks. Medical costs and damage to public buildings are not included in the trade association’s calculations.
