Essent raises prices of variable contracts by more than a quarter | . from 1 July NOW

Energy company Essent will increase the variable energy rates by 25 to 30 percent as of 1 July. As a result, customers are spending 25 to 90 euros more per month on their energy bills, the company confirms earlier reports from the NOS

On average, this involves a price increase of about 50 euros per customerEssent has approximately two million customers. Half of these have a variable contract, a spokesperson told NU.nl. Those customers will therefore have to deal with higher prices.

Essent also raised the rates on 1 January, when customers had to pay an average of 20 euros more per month. Essent promises not to raise the rates again before 1 January.

Together with Eneco and Vattenfall, Essent controls the largest part of the Dutch energy market. It is not yet known how high the price increases at the other energy companies will be from 1 July, the government writes NOS

Due to the corona crisis and the war in Ukraine, energy prices have been rising for a long time. On Monday it became clear that the Dutch gas trader GasTerra is stopping the import of Russian gas. It is not entirely clear what effect this will have on the gas price.
