Espert & Maslatón: what do they think of Batakis and the Argentine economy

Liberal referents and their definitions of goals with the IMF; the minister’s plan Silvina Batakis; the Central Bank (BCRA) and the devaluation; inflation and prices; and the president Alberto Fernandez and unfulfilled goals.

Jose Luis Espert and Carlos Maslaton They chatted with the morning of Delta 90.3 (In Wake Up and Common Citizen) and left their views on the economic present and the possible exit for Argentina.

Goals with the IMF

Joseph Louis Espert: “The goals for the third and fourth quarters are very unlikely that Argentina can fulfill them. The Minister of Economy Silvina Batakis will have gone to negotiate how to meet those goals.”

Carlos Maslaton: “Silvina Batakis’s visit to the IMF makes no sense, they will not give you a penny“.

central bank

Joseph Louis Espert: “The central bank it ran out of reserves, so some modification of the exchange rate regime will have to occur”.

Carlos Maslaton: “The Government has to free the exchange rate and the Argentine economy is going to fly upwards. This is very easy to fix, you have to bear the costs. The official exchange rate does not workhaving a parallel market is useless, controlling prices is useless.

Batakis and the plan

Joseph Louis Espert: “I think they were to Martín Guzman. I think that Cristina was angry with Martín Guzmán for the agreement with the fund, when she wanted to default. I wonder why Martín Guzmán left his position. what he is doing Silvina Batakis it is ‘guzmanism’ without Martín Guzmán”.

Carlos Maslatón: “What is happening now is the opposite of 2001, it has nothing to do with it. There will be no financial default. I do not share that it is a catastrophic scenario. This is disastrous, but it can be fixed.”

Unkept promises

Joseph Louis Espert: “All governments know what they are going to find. They lie so as not to take responsibility. The government is destabilizing itself with the stupid things it says.”

Carlos Maslaton: “This government did exactly the same as Mauricio Macri and failed just like him”

Inflation and prices

Joseph Louis Espert: “Inflation does not stop because it does not stop issue currency that no one wants. So everything will be expensive.”

Carlos Maslaton: “I always said that Argentina’s departure from the crisis is of an inflationary type. Argentina’s problem is very simple: nobody wants to admit that prices are wrong.”

Alberto Fernandez

Joseph Louis Espert: “President Alberto Fernandez he is indebting the country like no other president has done. He had said that he was going to present the impeachment request because of the criminal policy they carried out during the pandemic”.

Carlos Maslaton: “I don’t think it can be saved, it made too many mistakes. There is ideological confusion, tremendous ignorance and a possible defense against corruption
