BERLIN (dpa-AFX) – SPD leader Saskia Esken has called on the coalition partners to stand together for the compromise of the traffic light leaders in the budget crisis. It is the task of parliament to decide on the budget and now also to ask critical questions, said Esken in an interview with the German Press Agency on Tuesday. “But we won’t be able to put together this package on a large scale.” The compromise was not easy. “In this respect, it is now important that we stand by this solution together,” emphasized the SPD leader.
At the same time, Esken indicated that planned cuts for farmers should be examined. “Especially when reducing subsidies, we have to look closely at what effects and what harmful effects they have,” she said. Farmers would be hit by two measures at the same time: the cancellation of agricultural diesel and the vehicle tax exemption. There may be individual solutions in the traffic light tips package to which the Bundestag will make further changes./tam/DP/jha
