The Eurovision Song Contest will be held on May 7, 9 and 11, 2024 in Malmö, Sweden.
The dates for the next Eurovision Song Contest were announced on Friday (July 7th). Next year, the ESC will take place on May 7th, 9th and 11th, 2024. The semifinals will be held over two days, Tuesday (May 7, 2024) and Thursday (May 9, 2024). The grand finale will follow on Saturday, May 11, 2024.
As always, the competition for the best song in Europe will be held in last year’s winner country. Swedish singer Loreen won this year’s Eurovision Song Contest with her song Tattoo. Loreen was already the winner of the song contest in 2012.
So next year, after 1992 and 2013, Sweden will be the venue for the third time. The arena in Malmö was chosen as the location for the 68th edition of the ESC. Due to the current political situation, the last song contest was held in Liverpool instead of in the winning country Ukraine.
It is the fifth time in a row that the ESC will not be held in a capital city. Commenting on the choice of Malmo, Ebba Adielsson, Executive Producer and Director of the Eurovision Song Contest 2024 said:
“We have received strong, exciting and creative proposals from several cities, for which we are very grateful. The commitment of the municipalities was excellent. When we finally had all the options on the table, we made an overall assessment that involved many factors. Since hosting ESC 2013, Malmö has made traffic flows more efficient and sustainable and created more modern meeting places. The city is also investing heavily to offer visitors and residents even more opportunities to actively participate in the celebrations. It will be a new experience in many ways.”
The announcement was made on Friday (July 7) via the Swedish television community SVT and the European Broadcasting Union EBU.
