Most Valuable FCE Professional
Antonio Jonjic (23)’s move from Erzgebirge Aue to the Polish first division club Górnik Zabrze failed. After the attacker had already reached an agreement with the club where Lukas Podolski (37) is under contract, the two clubs were unable to come to an agreement on a fee. In the meantime, a medical check that had already been scheduled was canceled when the clubs entered a new round of negotiations.
“Górnik Zabrze is a very interesting address in the Ekstraklasa, where I personally see good opportunities for further development. (…) I hope that the clubs will come to an agreement financially,” Jonjic recently told Transfermarkt before the deal went through. “I think from an economic point of view, Erzgebirge Aue should have accepted the six-figure transfer package from Górnik Zabrze as they were relegated to the second division,” emphasizes his advisor Benjamin Heidlberger, but adds: “The fact that those responsible at Erzgebirge Aue put a stop to the transfer underlines the sporting importance of the player.”
Jonjic was the top scorer for the “Violets” last season with six goals and was able to increase his market value to 500,000 euros, making him the most valuable professional in coach Timo Rost’s team. So far in the new season, the coach has had to do without the offensive force, who missed preparation due to corona disease and was recently released from training as a precautionary measure in the course of negotiations about a change. Jonjic, who came to Aue from 1. FC Kaiserslautern in 2020, is under contract with the second division relegated team until next summer. “Toni will fulfill his contract and do everything for the team’s success,” says Heidlberger.
