Erwin opens a pop-up art shop: ‘I came up with a recipe for a coating that you don’t see anywhere’

A pop-up art shop has been opened in the former building of the Van Dam bed shop on the Delftsewallen. Erwin van Ellinkhuizen (55) comes up with the most special creations behind his computer. “For example, I make my own coatings with the appearance of metal. You don’t see that anywhere.”

In the former bed shop, Erwin sells a special collection of handmade wall decoration and tables. Passing by the building, the gold-colored wall panels and exploding colors of his designs immediately catch the eye.

The tabletops shine like crazy

For new inspiration, Erwin searches online on Pinterest and uses it to create his own works of art. “With a fun cigarette behind my computer I see the most beautiful things. Based on that, I designed tables with a luxurious look. I bought wood and started working with epoxy. The table tops shine like crazy, and I have the bases made with an industrial look.”

Hard plaster

Erwin came up with a recipe for a paste that he uses to make wall sculptures. “It looks like a kind of plaster that is incredibly hard and vandal-proof, you can even hit it with a hammer.” In addition, the resident of The Hague has developed a coating with a metallic appearance for his wall panels. “I try all kinds of things until I find the right material. For example, I use different stucco patterns, glass, epoxy and cast porcelain for my works.”

Actually, I want to keep everything myself

After several jobs, Erwin is now doing something he really likes. “I want to enjoy every day and I can use all my creativity in my works. At the back of the shop is my workshop where people are welcome to watch me at work. We can go through the wishes so that I can make custom wall decoration. It is of course the intention to sell everything, but honestly I want to keep everything myself because I like all my works. They are my children after all.”

Infinity Decoration Studio can be found in the temporary space at Delftsewallen 21-23. Erwin will probably be able to use the exhibition space until July 2023. As soon as the planned new-build homes of the Fittershof project have been sold, the building will be demolished.

I may use the empty building to exhibit my creations. I make my own coatings, which looks like metal. That does not exist. I find my ideas online. I try all sorts of things until I get to the right thing. You pay 1,400 to 1,500 euros. Actually, I want to keep everything myself because I like everything. They are my children. I have in the premises of the workshop, in the extension of ten by ten. People can come and watch.
