Erwin and Ger have been at Multivlaai in the Stadshart for 31 years: ‘We keep up with the times’

Multi pie has been a household name in Stadshart Zoetermeer for decades. This year, brothers Erwin and Ger celebrate the 31st anniversary of the business. How did they last so long? By moving with the times and knowing what people want. “Everything fresh, traditional and yet innovative.”

Multi pie in Zoetermeer is a family business. 31 years ago, Erwin’s father opened this establishment in the Stadshart. A little later, Erwin and his brother took over from their father. Multivlaai sells traditional Limburg pie, but nowadays also has an extensive American line including cheesecake and carrot cake. There is also a cozy coffee corner where you can enjoy a cup of coffee with your cake or homemade macarons. “Especially in the morning it is nice and busy here,” says Erwin.

With time

This extensive range ensures that Multivlaai remains popular over the years. Erwin keeps an eye on trends and now also offers halal cakes and pastries. Due to the increasing demand, gluten-free, lactose-free and sugar-free pastries are also on the menu. “You have to keep up with the times and this is what many people need right now.”

Hospitality in the blood

Erwin comes from a real hospitality family. Before Multivlaai opened, his father already had a Délifrance sandwich shop. The enterprising family immediately jumped in 30 years ago when fresh pies became a trend. Now they not only focus on the wide range in the store, but also deliver at home and at work between 9 and 12 in the morning. In addition, online ordering is possible. Erwin himself has also worked a lot in the hospitality industry and still gets a lot of pleasure out of it. “It’s in my blood, I wouldn’t want it any other way.”

Wildly enthusiastic

But what people mainly keep coming to Multivlaai for is of course the traditionally baked pies from Limburg. This Limburg delicacy comes all the way from Sevenum, near Venlo, to Zoetermeer at night. “So everything is fresh in our display cases in the morning,” says Erwin. “Regardless of whether people come for a delicious cup of coffee, a traditional piece of pie or an American delicacy: if they walk out with a pie, then our mission has been successful.”
