Superstar Erling Haaland of champions Manchester City has also been voted the best player in the Premier League after being named England’s footballer of the year.
That was the result of a vote by the 20 team captains and a jury of football experts. The Norwegian striker was instrumental in his fifth title in six years for the Skyblues in his debut season on the island with 36 goals of the season so far.
Haaland is the third City player in a row to receive this award. The 22-year-old succeeds his congenial assist provider Kevin De Bruyne, who won the election in 2020 and 2022. In 2021, Ruben Dias was named the best player in the English top flight.
In this year’s vote, Haaland prevailed against De Bruyne, Harry Kane (Tottenham Hotspur), Martin Odegaard, Bukayo Saka (both Arsenal FC), Marcus Rashford (Manchester United) and Kieran Trippier (Newcastle United).
