Meningitis is a serious disease. The disease caused by the virus can be milder, even life-threatening due to the bacterium, and requires urgent antibiotic treatment.
The most common causes of bacterial disease are pneumococcus, meningococcus and listeria. Other bacteria that cause the disease include staphylococci, Borrelia, tuberculosis, and mycoplasma.
