Erika Vikman’s gala outfit also made me feel ashamed

Boundaries have been broken at the Emma gala and people have arrived dressed as monsters, for example. How is Vikman’s performance outfit suddenly sacrilegious? asks journalist Henna Koste.

I thought the singer by Erika Vikman the ostentatious style would have been over or better learned to live with it. However, the aftermath of the Emma gala shows otherwise.

Vikman arrived on the red carpet of the Emma gala on Friday in a close-fitting pink, partially transparent jumpsuit.

The comment fields are full of writings about how Vikman’s outfit causes sympathy. It’s a chapter of its own, what kind of shame reading the comments of adults causes.

Many people still think that Vikman does not make his style choices consciously. In the comment fields, people argue about how Vikman is even allowed to wear a costume in a public place. Many people have also rushed to give their style tips: Vikmania would also wear a classically beautiful evening dress.

Tips have also been pouring in on how Vikman could create a more erotically attractive outfit without saving on fabric.

“A wonderful sensual essence can be elegantly brought out with more covering and body-shaping elegance and skillful make-up. The result can be erotically and sexually more attractive than an outfit that reveals everything at once”some male supposed style critic instructs.

As Vikman himself points out on his Instagram account, dressing up is not always meant to satisfy men’s erotic desires.

This isn’t the first time that Vikmani has been bullied without asking for advice. In the past, social media followers have forced Vikman to go on a diet because of his “bloating stomach”.

Boundaries have been broken at the Emma gala for decades. Sometimes they’ve been strutted on the red carpet in a creation made up of soft toys, sometimes dressed up as monsters. How is Vikman’s performance outfit suddenly sacrilegious? However, many seem to have a compulsive need to control how to dress at a gala where they are not even present.

You don’t have to go back more than two months, when something was seen at Linna’s party that everyone had an opinion about. Ballet dancer Atte Kilpinen’s pink tailcoat was considered inappropriate for Linnaa, although she was deservedly voted the best dressed of the evening.

In the social media comments, however, you can see how Kilpinen has dared to wear something other than black. The discussion reminded us how unfairly narrow men’s dress code is. Still, I believe that Kilpinen showed the way to bolder party dressing for men.

But what makes grown people wield the verbal knife as viciously as possible when the subject is someone else’s personal style? Come and give me a hard talk if I ever get upset that a man is dressed colorfully for a party or a woman has come to a music gala in a performance outfit.

I have a question for nasty style critics and social media bullies. Have you thought about the possibility that Vikman and other stylish dressers might actually like their style without anyone’s approval? You should try it yourself.
