Former Member of Parliament Erik Ziengs will be the new chairman of the city center organization Vaart in Assen from January 1. He succeeds Arjan van Bekkum, who has held this role since September 2019.
Vaart in Assen was established as a point of contact for city center entrepreneurs. The club is involved in tackling vacancy, events in the city and city marketing. The goal was set to make the center of Assen one boost to give.
Ziengs (63), himself from Assen, was a Member of Parliament for the VVD for almost eleven years. He said goodbye to national politics in 2021. After this, he was appointed to Ondernemend Nederland, an interest group for entrepreneurs.
He says about his appointment at Vaart in Assen: “I think it’s wonderful to be able to do something for Assen.”
Outgoing chairman Van Bekkum: “I have been able to fulfill this role with great pleasure and energy. When I arrived in 2019, the cooperation in the city was still very fragile. When I see where we are now, I am quite proud of that. we have achieved this with many people and partners. For me it is a good time to hand over the baton. We are not there yet, but with Erik Ziengs on board I look to the future with confidence.”
