The visor of Eirik Salsten’s helmet made an ugly mark.

Eirik Salsten had facial surgery. PDO

Playing in the Norwegian ice hockey team Eirik Salsten suffered a terrible injury in the middle of a match at the beginning of February.

In the top game of the Norwegian league between Storhamar and Stavanger Oilers, Salsten was tackled on the wing and his head dangerously hit the corner pad on the edge of the plexi.

The 28-year-old attacker was left lying on the ice surface in pain and it was immediately clear that something serious had happened to him. A pool of blood formed on the ice, and when the player soon hurried to the locker room, the visor of his helmet was covered in blood as well.

The visor had cut Salsten’s upper lip completely off his face. In the slow motion of the TV broadcast, the lip was visible on the ice as a loose piece.

You can watch a video of the tackle situation from this link.

– The visor was like a guillotine against my lips, Salsten describes his horrific injury to the Norwegian magazine VG.

The piece of the lip was transported to the hospital with the player and an attempt was made to operate on it back to the face, but without success. The lip could not be restored, and so it was removed again.

However, according to the doctors, Salsten does not need a skin transplant, but the lip is patched together by other means.

– You just have to trust what the doctors say. I want the lip to look as good as possible, and not have any creepy scars, says the player.
