Ericsson wins IndyCar opener

Last year’s Indy 500 winner Marcus Ericsson won the opening race of the IndyCar season.

The 32-year-old Swede from the Chip Ganassi Racing team won after 100 laps in St. Petersburg/Florida ahead of the Mexican Pato O’Ward (McLaren) and his teammate Scott Dixon from New Zealand.

The first of 17 races of the season was marked by a mass crash on the first lap, after which five drivers had to retire, including former Indy 500 champions Simon Pagenaud and Helio Castroneves.

It continues on April 2nd at the Texas Motor Speedway in Fort Worth.
