Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting from FC Bayern Munich has to miss his international matches with Cameroon a week and a half before the Bundesliga summit against Borussia Dortmund due to injury.
The 33-year-old announced on Instagram on Tuesday that he was canceling his participation because of back problems. “I will work hard to get back on the field as soon as possible.”
Choupo-Moting’s cancellation was expected after the injury-related absence in Munich’s 2-1 away draw against Bayer Leverkusen. Already there the attacker had stopped the back problems. “He couldn’t train either. We’ll see how resilient he will be next week. He’s currently having major problems in his back,” said coach Julian Nagelsmann before the game in the Rhineland.
The Munich team expect leaders Borussia Dortmund to play at home on April 1st. With a win, Bayern would once again overtake BVB, who have a one-point lead. Nagelsmann cannot plan to play national player Jamal Musiala, who has torn a muscle fiber. Musiala (11 Bundesliga goals this season) and Choupo-Moting (10) are Bayern’s two top scorers.
