At FC Bayern, new winter signing Eric Dier should help resolve the defensive personnel shortage. Former professional Mario Basler has a lot of confidence in the Englishman.
Although Eric Dier has hardly been used at Tottenham Hotspur in recent months, he could be of help to FC Bayern with “his experience,” the 55-year-old explained in his podcast “Basler ballert”.
The 49-time national player was initially loaned from Spurs until the end of June, after which there is an option for another year in Munich.
According to Basler, Dier is a “very good reinforcement” for the German record champions, who are currently only second in the Bundesliga. Harry Kane’s friend can be used “flexibly in defense” and is therefore particularly valuable.
Basler believes that Dier was just the beginning of a larger shopping spree. “I am convinced that Bayern will sign at least one or two more players,” said the 1996 European champion.
Basler: FC Bayern against Hoffenheim with “good luck”
Last Friday, FC Bayern won the first competitive game of the new year against TSG Hoffenheim relatively confidently 3-0 (1-0) without Dier.
Basler recognized light and shadow. Coach Thomas Tuchel’s team “started surprisingly brutally” and “played very, very well” in the first half, but then lost the thread a little and “had a lot of luck” with Hoffenheim’s top players.
In order to survive against stronger opponents, FC Bayern must “improve”; after all, other teams would make better use of their scoring opportunities.
Tuchel and his protégés are working on the fine-tuning at the training camp in the Algarve during the week. Dier also wants to recommend himself for missions in Portugal.
The next competitive game is next Sunday: SV Werder Bremen will be playing in the Allianz Arena.
